Group Health's Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine Department treats the full range of breathing conditions with a strong focus on patients and innovative techniques. One innovation is the use of interventional pulmonology — we have one of the few physicians in Washington state trained to use this less invasive, advanced airway procedure.
We are also able to use endobronchial ultrasound to examine and biopsy chest lesions from within the airways, reducing the need for surgery and general anesthesia. "We can now do rapid assessments of suspected chest cancers," says Dr. Priscilla Madsen, "which prevent multiple provider visits and long workups."
In our Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine Department, we care for conditions such as COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), asthma, lung cancer, lung nodules and other X-ray abnormalities, interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, lung infections, sleep disorders, and more. In fact, we have the largest group of board-certified sleep physicians in the state.
