Cancer Care Resources and Support
Group Health supports you in a variety of ways during and after cancer treatment. Members can call our Resource Line to find other support services in their communities.
Support Groups and Classes
Cancer support groups and classes are offered at various Group Health clinics to help people cope during cancer treatment.
Living Well With Chronic Conditions Workshop
Thanks to treatment advances, many cancer patients are living longer as cancer survivors. As a survivor, you may need to make changes to your lifestyle to stay healthy and on track with your doctor's recommendations.
This six-week workshop helps people with ongoing health issues learn skills to manage their health and improve their quality of life. Leaders are specially trained volunteers who have chronic health conditions themselves. Participants learn about nutrition, stress management, positive thinking, exercise, and more. Many say one of the most valuable things about the workshop is the support they get from each other.
Find a workshop at Group Health Medical Centers clinics or participate online.
Nutritionists can help you prepare for cancer treatment. They suggest foods that are easy to tolerate and help ensure you get the nutrition you need. Ask your doctor for a referral.
Social Work Services
Group Health social workers can help you manage the day-to-day and long term challenges of living with cancer, including finding services or resources. Talk to your doctor or health team about a referral.
Behavioral Health Services
Our counselors can help with the stress, tension, and depression that may result from a cancer diagnosis. Help is available for you, a couple, or within the family. Find a location to make an appointment:
Consulting Nurse Service
If you're a patient at Group Health Medical Centers, you can talk with one of our nurses about a symptom or side effect of cancer treatment. You can reach a nurse 24/7 — anytime, day or night. The nurses have access to your medical records, so they know your most recent treatments and conditions.
Our Customer Service staff can help you with questions about health plan coverage. Is a second opinion fully covered? Where might I have surgery? What would my cost share be? Call 1-888-901-4636 during standard business hours.
Speech, Language, & Learning Services
Speech/language pathologists can evaluate and treat any speech or swallowing problems you may have after treatment. Your doctor can make a referral.
If you've had surgery as part of your cancer treatment, you may need physical therapy, available at most Group Health Medical Centers locations. A physical therapist will evaluate your needs and develop a program for you. Your doctor can make a referral.
Group Health's Resource Line can direct you to other services and support within your community. Do you need a ride to treatment appointments, information about wigs because of hair loss, looking for financial assistance? Call 1-800-992-2279 during standard business hours or send an e-mail.
